All 15 LKA Squad members took part in the KUGB Grand Slam at Chesterfield. There was a higher than usual entry with teams from both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland in addition to the usual England, Scotland and Wales.
There were a number of very good performances, which started with the Boys Kumite where it was an all-LKA final, Jordon Probst proving too skilful for Stephen Brown. An excellent performance by both boys in their first year on the Junior Squad.
Ashley Scott once again showed her all round ability placing in both Kata and Kumite events. She placed 4th in the Female Kata and 2nd in Kumite, losing in the final to the Grand Champion, Holly Stirling.
Mel Finlay and Emma Nunn both placed 2nd in their respective Kumite events whilst Ryan Tucker and Tom Little both finished joint 3rd in the Junior Male Kumite. David Wright also finished a creditable 2nd in the Male Kata.
Ashley and Ryan were both selected to compete in Team Kumite events for the England Squad and both performed well as England went on to win both their categories. We are hoping for continued progress from all our competitors at the North West Open next week as people try to stake their places in the LKA Teams for the Nationals.
