KUGB National Youth Championships, 4th July 2009

32 LKA competitors took part in the KUGB's National Youth Championships at Chesterfield.  On a hot summers day, the stuffy hall was quite a challenge for competitors, referees and spectators alike.  With two of our best Junior competitors absent, Ryan Tucker through injury and Mel Finlay being in Kenya doing her Charity work, it was left to the others to fly the LKA flag.  We were very happy with the way they stepped up to the required standard.

David Wright and Zoe Starr were the top performers taking medals in both their Kata and Kumite events.  David won the Male Kata event with a very good performance of Unsu.  He also came 3rd in the 18-20 Years Kumite.  Zoe came 2nd in the Female Kata, missing out on first place by the narrowest of margins, 0.1 of a mark.  She then also took 2nd place in the Female Kumite event, losing to Janine Collins in the Final.

Tom Mitchell performed very well in winning the Boys Kumite Under 5' event.  He cleanly outpunched his bigger opponent in the final, in a classy and promising performance.

Well done to all those who took part and and a full list of results is shown below along with all the competitors underneath the table.
